School Council
The School Council at Hanover is made up of two children from each class from Year 2 to Year 6.
Their role includes running weekly meetings to discuss a variety of questions, both practical and philosophical. For this we use the Smart School Council platform.
Student voice is important to us and using this system allows us to discuss local and global issues (such as ideas for playground improvements, the climate crisis and other current issues) and gives all children a place to share their thoughts and opinions.
Our school council also leads Action Groups which can be set up by any child in the participating year groups. These can be hobby groups, such as cooking and reading clubs or groups that wish to make a difference in school (eg. gardening) and in wider society (eg. climate issues).
The School Council is also a conduit for sharing information where the children's input is required such as the type of food they are offered for lunch.
It's also a great way to learn about how democracy works when we have our elections.
